Becoming a Foster Carer

Fostering is more than opening your home—it’s about opening your heart and making a real difference in a child’s life.

At PACFS, we’re looking for caring, committed people who want to provide a safe, supportive environment where children and young people can grow, feel valued, and thrive. Whether you’re new to fostering or bringing previous experience, we’ll support you every step of the way.

What We’re Looking For

To become a foster carer with PACFS, you will need to:

• Provide a safe, stable, and welcoming home

• Have a spare bedroom available (flexibility may apply for young siblings)

• Be willing to work alongside professionals, including attending key meetings about the child’s care

• Follow and support each child’s Care Plan

• Respect and promote children’s rights, giving them a voice in decisions that affect them

• Support appropriate relationships, including contact with birth families where suitable

• Be open to learning, attending training and support groups

• Offer patience, understanding, and consistency, treating each child as part of your family

• Use positive, non-punitive approaches to behaviour

Allowances & Financial Support

We understand that fostering is a significant commitment, and you should feel financially supported to provide the best care possible.

As a PACFS foster carer, you will receive:

• A competitive weekly fostering allowance to cover the child’s day-to-day needs

• Professional fees (where applicable) recognising your skills and commitment

• Additional support for specific placements, depending on the needs of the child

• Financial guidance and support, helping you manage fostering income effectively

Your allowance is designed to ensure you can focus on what matters most—providing a safe, nurturing, and stable environment for the child in your care.

(Full details of allowances will be discussed during the application process.)

Your Role as a Foster Carer

As a foster carer, you will:

• Support the child’s emotional, physical, and educational development

• Work closely with professionals and attend important meetings

• Keep simple, accurate records to support the child’s journey

• Promote the child’s wellbeing and safety at all times

• Help children build confidence, independence, and positive relationships

What Support You’ll Receive

You will never be alone on your fostering journey. We provide:

• Dedicated support from an experienced Supervising Social Worker

• 24/7 support, whenever you need advice or reassurance

• Ongoing training and development opportunities

• Regular supervision and guidance tailored to you

• A supportive community of carers who understand your journey

Make a Difference

Fostering changes lives—not just for the child, but for you too.
